So, the seller didn't bother to pick up the lens and Ebay made a refund on the 19th.

Today the lens has landed back on my doorstep.

Well I emailed him saying that the lens was back with me and I've given
him 2 weeks to arrange collection after which I've said that I will
dispose(1) of said lens.

The one thing I am quite pleased with was that ebay decided that five
days was enough time for him to pick it up from the sorting office
before issuing me with a refund.

(1) Well, I'll look into the economics of having it cleaned.
