I didn't, those were ebay messages. I'd already given him my mobile number
at his request but he never used it, preferring not to let me know he wasn't
going to turn up until he'd checked his ebay messages whilst sitting in A&E
(!)

I suppose at least he checked his messages. And perhaps benefit of the doubt
should lie with him, in light of the fact that he might have been about to
send you a late apology - just you got in first! ;-)

Indeed. He turned up today, two hours later than he said, but gave me plenty
