What do they have to do with the mortgage crisis?

Fannie and Freddie didn't make any subprime loans. They didn't guarantee any subprime loans. They didn't
underwrite or take out any investment policies (aka "derivatives"), they just conducted business as usual.

Fannie Mae did pretty much what FDR designed it to do, help workers with limited resources get into housing
they could afford.

Freddie Mac did pretty much what Nixon designed it to do, help workers with limited resources get into housing
they could afford.

What went wrong was AIG, Goldman Sachs and the other investment houses. What went wrong was banks going crazy
writing signature loans to anybody who could spell their name because AIG would insure them against loss. Most
of the AIG bailout money went to Goldman Sachs. And who was Treasury Secretary when the bailouts were being
designed? Oh, that's right! The former CEO of Goldman Sachs, a BUSH appointee.

So who crushed our economy? Phil Gramm if you must have a name. Gramm Leach Bliley virtually repealed the
Thirties era banking legislation that had been specifically written to stop banks from destroying the economy
through mismanagement and greed.

Twice in one hundred years the GOP has controlled the White House, Senate and House of Representatives as well
as the courts and on both occasions they were driven from power by economic collapse.

They had all the apples from 1919 to 1931 and the voters didn't give them all the power again until 2001 and
look what they did with it in just seven years!

It'll be a long time before the GOP will see that sort of power again.

In the news: Bernie Kerik, Bush's first DHS appointee was just sentenced to four years in prison.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/19/nyregion/19kerik.html
"Bernard B. Kerik, a former New York police commissioner who rose to national prominence, was sentenced to
four years in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to eight felony charges, including tax fraud and lying
to White House officials."

Kook alert. Please remain indoors. If outside, seek shelter immediately.

Aw, look who has crawled out from under his rock.

"Nothing has invigorated my spirit more than Obama's inauguration but his
election. The House Republicans' refusal to support the relief bill will
backfire on them in two years. Mark my words, by 2010, the GOP will find
itself so completely minimized by the American electorate that they might as
well stay home as attend Congress."

It's not over until the fat lady sings. Repblican have made small 4 per
cent gains among independent men, but not women.

Anyone who thinks put the people back into office who brought us to the
edge of the depression precipice will fix things will be shocked by the
grid lock.

The Great Depression will not be fixed by the GOP one trick pony, tax cuts.
