They take a few minutes to get to full brightness and LED ones are out now anyway. Think of a normal bulb with a coating inside, then a few uV LEDs inside to make it glow a brilliant white. 1w compared to 20w energy saver. Maybe energy savers are not so efficient. Most energy saving bulbs sold in Tesco and Costco are knackered anyway - be sure to take them out of the packs in tesco. If they rattle put them back. Avoid the ones sealed up in CostCo as only half in each pack work.

They use less power and last longer we have just one ordinary bulb in the whole house a 200 W and I am sat under it now if I could replace it with a 200 energy saving bulb I would but at over 15 a go I will stick with this one . The Philips ones that are shaped like a normal bulb reach full brightness in around 5 seconds...well, the 100W equivalent one does, anyway! JW

I have bought more than a hundred of Costco CFL spirals, none have been faulty. Mrcheerful
