Similar problem - system would buzz when you tried to start it, but nothing moved. Disconnected the belt, and the drum turned free but the motor was nearly frozen. Worked about a half/ounce of oil into each end-bearing and it freed up nicely. Ran it unloaded for about 15 minutes and nothing got hot, so I put it all back together. That was about a month ago and all is well. I guess you're supposed to oil them every 25 years or so. :-) I should probably pull the motor from the washer and oil it. Same vintage and running fine. Parts for old Maytags should be available anywhere that carries appliance replacement parts. Good luck. -beck
