Fast food companies take many steps in order to insure that their beef is safe to avoid lawsuits.** The government takes few steps to insure that beef is safe in order to avoid finding anything. The gubmint only roars into action when people get sick from loads of beef that got the governments seal of approval, then it's always considered the packers fault. If the government isn't finding something (e Coli, Mad Cow Disease, radiation at Three Mile Island, mercury in drinking water, vote fraud, the missile that all those "mistaken" eyewitnesses saw take down Flight 800 or a thousand other things), as often as not it's because they're making it a point not to look for it even though they might be going through the motions of looking for it. Then they confidently announce, and the media dutifully parrots, that this or that "Isn't there" according to the unquestionably correct American government and everybody can stop worrying and go shopping. Remember: If the government isn't finding something, there is at least a 50% chance that it's because they aren't really looking for it. ** Conservatives almost always consider lawsuits against corporations to be "frivolous" and are determined to make them illegal, but for the time being, if a Whopper makes you sick or dead, your next of kin still have legal recourse.

Ensure means to do something to make sure or guarantee that something happens. Insure means to guarantee something with insurance or other financial instruments.

Hmph. Next thing you'll be complaining about people saying "different than" instead of "different from" and "forbidden from" instead of "forbidden to". Education is MUCH comfier now without all those ugly hard rules about things. -- Yrs 4 btr English, Bev ========================================================== "The last thing you want is for somebody to commit suicide before executing them." -Gary Deland, former Utah director for corrections |
