There are a few no annual fee cards around. I have 2 of them. Look here:

Not if you pay it off straight away. And IF you normally carry a debt on
your card, there is NO interest free period and no difference anyway.

Me too, but the interest free period drops from ~30 days to same day. I
still use a "fee based" card for my purchases and get 6% interest on my
money in the meantime, which works out better for me :-)
