Exactly. You buy the phone, but *don't* plug it into iTunes to activate the
O2 contract (O2 don't care - I know of people who told O2 employees they were
going to unlock their phones...they didn't bat an eyelid). There are a couple
of programs around to do this, one being 'ZiPhone' (mentioned in above link)
- it takes 2 or 3 minutes and is supposed to be very simple (there are also
videos on YouTube showing exactly how it's done). Your local mobile/unlocking
stall/shop can probably do it as well...

Maybe the wrong place to ask but has anyone here actually done this. I am
thinking of getting this tomorrow and unlocking with Ziphone, but dont want
to break the phone in the process. So does it really work and will I be able
to use my PAYG Orange sim?

No.

Yes. However you *are* doing *something* to your phone - there is always the
possibility it might not work. You have to accept there is a slight risk -
however unlikely it might be...

and will I be able

Yes. Or O2, or T-Mobile, or Vodafone... that's the usage of the word
'unlocked' in regards to mobile phones - they are not 'locked' to a specific
network.

Look on YouTube - there are many, many videos showing the process.

Cheers ... Mark
